What if Your Dad Was Homeless? *UPDATE!!!!!!!*

If you haven't already please read What if Your Dad Was Homeless HERE.

A few days ago there was a knock my door. When I opened it, I saw a older gentleman he said "Is Shelby home?" I said "No he's not here right now". After I said that it hit me...It's Jimmy!!! I didn't even recognize him! He had gained about 10-15 lbs, cut his hair, shaved his mustache, was wearing some spiffy clothes and no longer had a sun burn on his face from sitting outside all day long. He said "I don't know if you remember me" I said "Of course I do Jimmy, I just didn't recognize you. You look great!" I invited him in and he told me how he had been sober for awhile. He knows a couple that is selling their home and is letting him stay there until it sells. He doesn't have much just clothes and a sleeping bag, but he is VERY happy. He pulled out a box and said " I have something for you and Shelby" he opened it and pulled out 2 pins. They both were the same with footprints on them. He said that he wears his on his collar and got them from his AA meetings that he goes to. I told him that I liked them a lot and thank you. He then said "let me give you my phone number. I have a cell". WOW..I don't even have a cell! :) I got his number and gave him mine. He has never had a cell, so didn't know how to add our number to the contacts. I put our number in and showed him how to add numbers to his phone. He said that he had to go and I told him that I would tell Shelby that he stopped by. I shut the door after he walked out feeling the happiest I felt that day. I forgot to ask him about his daughter. I wonder if she knows he is doing great and is sober. It's going to be great when they get to reunite!!!

How exciting!

If you and your husband wouldn't have helped him he might not have had the motivation to get sober and start the journey to finally see his daughter again.

Congrats!

With the statistics of getting sober being very small, this is wonderful news. This was a great post and uplifting. Thanks for sharing!
